Don Cristobal is a family owned winery that started its activities in 1998 with the solid commitment to produce quality wines with personality. The shareholders of the company are the Belgian-Argentinian family Lapania-Vandenbalck. The company is led by Eduardo Lapania, its founder, and Cristóbal Lapania (his son) who assumes the position of CEO.

Don Cristobal began the production of wines with the 2001 harvest and entered that same year in the world wine market with its brand Cristóbal 1492 “wines of the new world for the entire world”. Don Cristóbal owns a total of 200 hectares of land with 143 hectares of planted vineyards, a very good production base, great diversity of areas and grapes and is constantly evolving. The company improves day by day in the winemaking process and is adopting sustainable practices in the vineyards and in the winery.

The estate of Don Cristobal consists of 200 hectares of land, located in the surroundings of Mendoza city, with 143 hectares of planted vineyards.

The production methods, either the work in the vineyards or in the winery, rely on the successfully proven combination of tradition and technological innovations.

The variety of soils and altitude, specific of each of our vineyards, jointly with an adequate balance between its production and its vegetative part (to pursue this we work with innovative techniques of watering and fertilization) allow us to get top quality grapes.

Don Cristóbal winery was built in 2008 and is located in El Remanso vineyard (Ugarteche, Departamento de Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza) on the emblematic Route #40.

The cellar has a capacity of 2.200.000 liters including epoxy-coated concrete tanks, stainless steel tanks and French and American oak barrels.

The bottling process is completed in the winery by an automatic bottling line.

At Don Cristóbal we are committed to high-quality standards in our vineyards and winery to produce consistent, quality wines for consumers. We are constantly looking in achieving the highest certifications standards.

We are certified in accordance with HACCP since 2016. We have also earned in 2018 the sustainability certification - The Viticulture Sustainability Self-Assessment Protocol by Bodegas de Argentina.
Furthermore, since September 2019, all our red, rosé and white wines are vegan certified.

Mendoza is the largest and most important wine-producing province in Argentina and is known as the home of Malbec. Indeed, Mendoza is accounting for about 75% of the country’s wine production. It is a unique wine growing region due to the combination of different factors including climate, soil and altitude.


Mendoza’s climate is characterized by lots of heat, sunlight and dry growing conditions. It has an average of 300 days of sunshine per year and droughts of several months are not uncommon. This is why Mendoza’s wines tend to have ripe fruit flavors and the reds exhibit riper, softer tannins.

In Mendoza there is little rain (less tan 200 millimeters per year). To get vines the water they need to survive, vineyards are irrigated from rivers that cascade down the Andes Mountains and from deep water wells.


Soils at the base of the Andes tend to be young and alluvial with a high proportion of sand and loam and are low in organic material. The sandy loam is underlain with river rocks offering good drainage.


In Mendoza vineyards are planted at altitudes between 500 and 1,200 meters above sea level. The benefit of altitude is the difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures. This gives the fruit a fresher acidity, more layers of flavors, and an increased aging potential.
