James Suckling, the famous journalist and wine critic, was in Mendoza, in the month of February 2019, tasting wines for his report “Argentina’s extreme wines lead the way in this year’s tasting”. James and his team tasted 1800 wines over two weeks and found some amazing wines.

Don Cristobal wines received 90+ Points from James Suckling. Below are the awarded wines and the tasting notes:

  • Cristobal 1492 Bonarda 2018: 91 Points

“Bursting with blueberry and blackberry aromas with a hint of black olives, this is a bold and rather powerful wine for the bonarda grape. Quite a tannic finish, but no hardness. Drink now”.

  • Punta Paramo Malbec 2018: 91 Points

“This has a juicy plum and wild-berry nose and an assertive, long and juicy palate that has a soft, fleshy and approachable feel. Drink or hold”.

  • Cristobal Barrel Selection Shiraz 2014: 90 Points

“This is a very nice glass of ripe red wine that’s very balanced with quite polished tannins. Quite a soft finish. Drink now”.

  • Triana 2012: 90 Points

“This has a ripe and assertively complex feel with a very plush array of rich, ripe tannins, holding a deep and fleshy finish in ripe, mellow style. Drink or hold”.
